KGS Counselling: Online + Outdoor Therapy
Outdoor Therapy

Outdoor therapy may also be known to some people as walk and talk therapy. There may be many reasons why outdoor therapy is an attractive option. Some of the reasons I have chosen to offer it is:
- The benefits of being outside in nature on mental health can aid the therapeutic process
- It gives people who choose to avoid indoor spaces for health reasons an option for face to face therapy
- Increased exercise benefits mental health
- Walking/sitting side by side can feel more comfortable then sitting in a room/ video call with someone. It can be allow some people to feel freer.
- Connection to ourselves, others and nature can be part of therapy
Before starting outdoor therapy, we begin with an introduction call to see what brings you to therapy. We go through any health conditions or mobility needs that I can plan for. We will discuss location and practical details like what to do if you bump into some you know. I send you details of where to meet.
We can walk in any weather as long as you have appropriate walking clothes and shoes. If you decide to do an online/ phone session instead, then please give me as much notice as possible, no less than 1 hour in advance of the session.
I provide outdoor therapy in Derby. Some examples of venues include Markeaton Park and Elvaston Castle Country Park. If you are local to these areas and prefer a different option, please get in contact.
Group walk and talk sessions will be starting later this year. They will be a space to share and listen without judgement. We will practice mindful walking, have moments of reflection and chances for group sharing, along with a chance to walk and talk with fellow group members.
What would work for you? As I am in the planning stages, if you are interested to join, I am open to hear what would work for you. I am keen to know your preferences around location. Would you prefer walks within Derby or would you prefer to drive somewhere a bit further out if you have access to a car? Walks will likely take place Monday- Friday. Do you have a preference for time and day? Do you have mobility needs that I can plan for? What is your preference for distance for the walk? I am thinking between 1.5 hours to 2 hours. What else might be important for you to access the walk and feel safe? Please get in touch at kgscounselling@gmail.com
